The Porsche Taycan has beaten Tesla at the Nürburgring!

The Tesla Model S Plaid has been dethroned as the Electric King of the Ring. Said reign now belongs to Porsche after the German sportscar marque successfully completed an attempt around the Nürburgring with a specially-kitted Taycan Turbo S.
Notably, the attempt Porsche undertook around the course’s infamous 20.8km-long Nordschleife section, also known as ‘The Green Hell’, saw its Taycan Turbo S best the Tesla Model S Plaid by two full seconds with its laptime of 7 mins 33 secs – said Tesla did it 7 mins 35 secs prior.
Furthermore, this effort also sees Porsche set a new record laptime for Electric Vehicles (EVs) on said course.

According to Porsche, the Taycan Turbo S fielded during this attempt was equipped with a new performance kit and its Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control suite brimmed with a recent software update.
The former includes a set of 21-inch RS-Spyder wheels shod with new Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tyres that’s now available for the Taycan. Apart from that, said record-setting Taycan was also fitted with a roll cage and racing seats.
“We’re delighted that the Nürburgring record for electric cars is back in Porsche hands,” said the Taycan’s model line VP Kevin Giek. “This lap time not only shows how much potential lies in our new performance kit, but also confirms once again the sports car genes of the Taycan.”

For those wondering, the Taycan in its range-topping Turbo S form, serves up 616 hp in 'standard' running, or 750 hp and 1,050 Nm in ‘overboost’. Porsche claims 0-100 kmh in just 2.8 secs and a 260 kmh V-max. This comes on top of the ability to travel up to 468km (WLTP, combined) from each full charge of its 93.4kWh battery pack.
Locally, Porsche Malaysia (Sime Darby Auto Performance) officially retails the Taycan Turbo S from RM996,000 excluding options and on-road costs.
