Teksiku, Malaysia's First EV taxi
Previously in August, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob announced that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will provide 1,000 EV taxis in collaboration with Mysuri Biz Technologies Sdn Bhd to support Malaysia's Go Green efforts.
MG 5 EV wagon will be the first EV taxi being introduced in November this year carrying a price tag approximately below RM100,000. The New York cab-like form has started its service in Singapore under ‘’Strides Taxi’’ which is known for its clean energy vehicle adoption.
The EV taxi is set for lease-to-own through the Koperasi Jurupandu Teksiku programme and will embark its distribution in Klang Valley and Langkawi.
Under the hood, the EV taxi is driven by a single electric motor and offers two different variants of both long- and short-range transmission.
The long-range version includes a 61.1-kWh battery with a WLTP range of 403 kilometres on top of producing 156 hp and 280 Nm from a single electric motor.

Charging from 0 to 100% with AC takes 10 hours, while charging from 10% to 80% with DC fast charging would likely take 40 minutes of your time.
Meanwhile, the short-range version consists of a 50.3-kWh battery with a range of 316 km (WLTP). Although both models are powered by a single electric motor, the short-range model has a little more power at 163 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
AC charging, however, likely needs to apply 8.5 hours from 0 to 100%, and DC fast charging from 10% to 80% which takes 40 minutes.
A facelifted version of the EV taxi is available globally as a long-range version with a 57-kWh battery and a short-range
In Malaysia, we will be getting the pre-facelift version although in the global market, MG 5 EV is available in facelifted version offering long range version of 400km WLTP range with a 57-kWh battery whilst short range version has a 46-kWh battery with 310 km WLTP range.
