Petron continues to support Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) effort in setting up as many Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) locations nationwide. This follows our earlier report where even Rapid KL joint forces to make this a success with the setting up of RapidKL Safety Point (RSP) on high volume stations. Earlier, Petron had set up 28 GTSP throughout the Peninsular and now is following up with expansion to the east. Kicking this expansion off at Petron Minintod, Sabah on 20 October 2022.

“The GTSP programme is one of the ways we contribute to the safety, security and well-being of the community. We want to increase public awareness on GTSP and for Petron to be known as a safe location where they can seek early assistance in the event of an emergency. Our collaboration with RMP gives us the opportunity to give back to the community in the form of this program,” said Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Petron Head of Retail Business.

This program which is an initiative by PRDM falls under the government’s “United Against Crime” initiative to ensure the safety and security of the local communities. With such a program, police presence would be increased at participating Petron stations and calls made from the stations would be responded quickly hence making these stations a perfect safety shelter for the public during emergency situations.

The launch at Petron Minintod was officiated by the Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner, YDH DCP Datuk Jauteh bin Dikun. During the launch a simulated emergency situation was staged serving as a “real-time” training for the station staff to put their knowledge into practice when faced with such encounters in the future.

Similar to PSP, the GTSP would have space to provide a comfortable space for the public to seek shelter, calm down while receiving early assistance. This space would be well equipped with a first aid kit, a chair, a blanket and a safety information board which clearly displays emergency contact numbers.

“I am honoured that my station has been chosen as the venue for Sabah State GTSP Event Launch. My station staff were trained to provide early assistance to the public during an emergency while we contacted the relevant government agencies for further support. My hope is that the simulation today will increase public understanding of the GTSP programme and assure them that they will be assisted by our station staff during an emergency” said Yong Shiaw Yeou, Petron Minintod dealer.

Petron is the first Malaysian oil company to enforce GTSP at the service stations. You can easily identify participating stations via the GTSP window decals. All the station's personnel would undergo refresher training periodically so they are kept updated and are adequately prepared for emergencies.

The GTSP programme was recently reinforced by launching 10 designs of murals and safety posters using old Malay proverbs. This goes in-hand with Petron’s social sustainability aspiration on community engagement which is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17, goals.
