Honda Malaysia: “Delivery times almost back to normal”

At the official launch of the Honda Civic e:HEV RS model held earlier today in Rawang, Selangor, CariCarz.com managed to have a quick chat with top management from Honda Malaysia regarding the firm’s current delivery times.

“Our delivery times are almost back to normal now, with the exception of certain models,” said a Honda Malaysia spokesperson who answered our query about the matter. Our source adds that the firm is working towards delivering at least 80% of bookings received during the Sales & Service Tax (SST) waiver period, which ended on June 30 this year.

To refresh your memory, the government had temporarily waived SST charges on new car purchases as part of its post-pandemic efforts to stimulate the local economy’s recovery. Customers who placed bookings on new cars during this period can still enjoy said SST waiver provided that their cars are delivered and registered before March 31, 2023.

“Due to the overwhelming number of booking we received during this period, compounded by the on-going chip supply shortage, some models will take longer to deliver,” our source continued further. Additionally, our source was also kind enough to share with us exact delivery timelines for all of Honda Malaysia’s current models.

First Honda HR-V customer delivery, Aug 18.

Both the City Hatchback e:HEV RS (left) and new Civic e:HEV RS (right) should see 3-month waiting times.

Starting with the new Civic e-HEV RS variant the firm launched today, the waiting period for one will last between 2-3 months at least. In contrast, deliveries for all other variants of the 11th-gen Civic, which Honda Malaysia officially launched at the start of this year, will take longer – 8 months at least. Said model has seen sales reach nearly 7,000 units as of Sept this year with a leading 81% market share in its segment.

Besides the non-hybrid Civic variants, our source also confirmed that deliveries the new generation HR-V model, officially launched this year just before the SST exemption period ended, will also see longer than usual delivery waiting times – up to 12 months (1 year).

Apart from these two models in particular, our source from Honda Malaysia’s management reassured that bookings made on other models should see the usual 3-month waiting time – just as how it was in pre-pandemic times.

In short, if you’re still waiting to take delivery of your brand new Civic or HR-V in particular, then be patient – these will take a while. As for the rest, delivery times should take more than  the minimum 2-3 months  stated.
