Anthony Loke Receives Courtesy Visit From Ex-F1 'Suprimo" Datuk Seri Jean Todt - UN Road Safety Convention Discussed
Yesterday, YB Loke Siew Fook, Malaysia's Minister of Transport (MOT) received a courtesy visit from the ex-F1 suprimo Datuk Seri Jean Todt who is now the Special Representative to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for Road Safety.
During their meeting, YB Anthony Loke assured Jean that the informed that the MOT would give its continuous commitment towards making road safety a priority in promoting awareness through its legal instruments and sharing road safety good practices among Malaysians.
In addition, Jean Todt also encouraged Malaysia to become part of the Contracting Party to all seven UN Road Safety Conventions as listed below;
1968 Convention on Road Traffic;
1968 Convention on Road Signs and Signals;
1958 Agreement concerning the Adoption of Harmonized Technical United Nations Regulations for Wheeled Vehicles, Equipment and Parts which can be Fitted and/or be Used on Wheeled Vehicles and the Conditions for Reciprocal Recognition of Approvals Granted on the Basis of these United Nations Regulations;
1997 Agreement concerning the Adoption of Uniform Conditions for Periodical Technical Inspections of Wheeled Vehicles;
1998 Agreement concerning the Establishing of Global Technical Regulations for Wheeled Vehicles, Equipment and Parts;
1957 Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR);
1970 European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engage in International Road Transport (AETR).
Both parties are also committed to continue cooperation in the identified areas.
Present during the courtesy visit were also representatives from the United Nations, namely Dr. Richard Marshall (Senior Economist) and Dr. Asa Torkelsson (UN Resident Coordinator).
