Electric Jimny Part Suzuki’s Upcoming Global EV Revamp

Suzuki unveiled its electrification plans for 2030 which teases a number of electric vehicles (EVs) for the European, Japanese, and Indian markets.

Notably, a battery-electric version of the famed Suzuki Jimny has been confirmed in these plans, which will come alongside the  production-bound version of the S-brand’s recently debuted eVX concept car. Both stand as examples of the electric SUVs and kei cars that the Japanese marque will produce and market by the end of the decade.

The electric Suzuki Jimny is evidently clear to see in the released teaser images presented. Said image shows it sporting an illuminated grille and contemporary LED graphics on the round headlights, and it’s set to stand as a  centrepiece model for Suzuki in its plans for the European region.

Despite its electrified refresh, the model is projected to retain its ladder-frame chassis architecture and most of its exterior and interior design cues

Besides EVs, Suzuki is also planning a mild hybrid version of the Jimny, which will allow it to go on sale in Europe as a passenger vehicle too. Presently, the current combustion-powered variant is now offered as a two-seater Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) due to strict EU emission regulations in place currently.

Additionally, an SUV offering resembling the Suzuki Fronx can also be seen next to the Jimny EV's silhouette. Apparently, the model was unveiled in India earlier this month, and it appears Suzuki intends to offer an EV version of which for Europe as well.

Aside from that, there is a city car that appears to be smaller than the current Ignis model, as well as two more SUV models, one likely based on the eVX concept's production version, while the other remains unknown as present.

At the same time, Suzuki also announced plans to introduce six EV models for its home market of Japan. The unidentified kei car's silhouette can be seen twice, possibly alluding to the nearly identical panel van and passenger body styles.

Two more kei vehicles are available, one of which is the Suzuki Hustler electric. One other model likely to make production too is the successor of the Every model, though it could also be the Spacia or Wagon R. Additionally, the zero-emission versions of the Fronx and the eVX SUV will also be part of the Japanese EV lineup.

By 2030, Suzuki aims to have 80% of its European lineup be in the form of EVs, with the remaining 20% being hybrids. As noted, ICE-powered vehicles will effectively be banned in Europe starting 2035, forcing automakers to accelerate their electrification plans.

Lastly, Suzuki will launch its first EV in Europe by next year where the automaker has already stated that the production-ready eVX will be anticipated in 2025. As reported, said concept roughly measures 4,300 MM long, 1,800 MM wide and 1,600 MM tall, which sees it sit almost exactly the same size as the Suzuki S-Cross but slightly smaller than the Grand Vitara crossover.
