Goodyear Demonstrates New Tyre Made From 90% Sustainable Materials
-full.jpg)
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has presented a demonstration showing tyres made from up to 90% sustainable materials that promises to increase vehicle efficiency and mitigate carbon footprints further. Aside from that, the demonstration also tested tyres that feature a relatively low rolling resistance compared to normal tires. Goodyear adds that it’s now looking to work with suppliers to produce tyres with up to 70% sustainable material content this year too.

This 90% sustainable-material demonstration tyre included 17 featured ingredients across 12 different components. Amongst them are four different types of carbon black used to reinforce tyre construction and prolong tyre life, the use of soybean oil to keep the tyre’s rubber compound pliable in changing temperatures, silica produced from rice husk waste residue (RHA silica), recycled polyester, as well as bio-renewable pine tree resins and steel with high-recycled content. Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Chief Technology Officer, Chris Helsel stated that his team will introduce the first tire with 100 percent sustainable materials in the industry by 2030.

‘’Last year was an important year towards achieving this goal. We research new technologies, identify further opportunities for collaboration and use the services of our team. "It not only shows the ability to produce 90% sustainable material tires, but also produce tires with a sustainable material content of up to 70% this year," said Helsel in a statement.
