Oppo, OnePlus And Vivo Smartphones Can Now Work As Keys For Nio Electric Vehicles
Two Chinese manufacturers have announced that their smartphones are now compatible with Nio vehicles built on the latest NT2.0 platform. Both Vivo and Oppo have smartphones that can now be used to unlock a car without the need for keys. This feature is only available on the most recent Nio EVs, which include the ET5, ET7, ES7 (sold in Europe as EL7), and EC7. All of those models are based on the updated NT 2.0 platform, and the company is in the process of transitioning its entire electric vehicle lineup to this platform.
Oppo announced that its Find FN2 series, Find X5 series, Reno 9 series, and OnePlus Ace series smartphones are Nio vehicle compatible. All owners need to do is add the digital car keys to their phone's wallet app, and they can use their smartphone as a car key from then on.
vivo followed up with a list of its phones that support keyless access to Nio vehicles. These are smartphones from the vivo X series, vivo S series, and its iQOO series, iQOO Neo series, iQOO Z series, and NEX series - a slightly larger selection than Oppo.
Nio is not the first company to collaborate with Oppo and vivo; both smartphone manufacturers already have partnerships with Tesla, Li Auto, and XPeng, among many other electric car manufacturers. When it comes to smartphone integration, Nio is a little late to the keyless car entry game.
Simultaneously, Nio is hard at work on its own smartphone. The company believes it can deliver a device that is far more integrated and offers Nio EV owners a far better user experience than any other phone currently on the market. The company has no plans to compete with any phone manufacturer; it simply wants to improve the Nio's user experience, and it claims that if it can sell the phone to half of Nio owners, the phone will be a viable business.
Both Oppo and Vivo are working to make more smartphone models compatible with Nio electric cars. Phones have become such an integral part of our lives that it makes sense to incorporate them into as many scenarios as possible. Only a few years ago, digital payments were viewed as a revolution, and now we can't imagine life without them.
The same is true for digital keys; a phone can store a large number of keys, eliminating the need to carry a large number of physical keys. The ability to share keys at will and from a distance, giving friends, family, or emergency services access to cars, homes, and offices, adds value here. Yes, there are significant security concerns, but work is ongoing and progress is being made.
