Apple CarPlay Set To Allow In-Car Video Streaming Soon

Announced back in June 2025 was a revised iteration of Apple CarPlay complete with an all-new look and the promise of integrated video playback support.

When Apple first announced iOS 26 back in June 2025 – the latest operating system for its signature iPhone – the firm had also initially promised video playback support via its Apple CarPlay in-car connectivity suite.

Though absent in its initial release, said feature is set to arrive soon enough. Recently, the firm has released iOS 26.4 beta, and it appears that the promised video playback functionality is now accessible to developers.

As detailed via Apple’s developer page, the latest beta iOS version now allows users to watch content from their iPhones on their CarPlay displays using AirPlay video. The only caveat here is that this function only works when the vehicle in parked.

Said new video playback functionality is also set to be available in the extensive Apple CarPlay Ultra suite.

Besides that, developers can also integrate this support into both regular CarPlay and the more extensive CarPlay Ultra connectivity suites. The firm has also added its Apple TV app into the main display for CarPlay too.

Generally, in-car video playback is becoming more common in recent years, notably through the adoption of Google Built-In. Unlike Android Auto, Google Built-In offers access to the Google Play Store and apps like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and more.

Speaking of, it’s worth recapping you that Android Auto does not support a similar ability yet. However, it won’t be surprising if said rivalling suite from Google catches up to Apple by integrating its Chromecast suite to bring similar functionality soon.

For now, Apple has not announced a release date for this native video playback function via CarPlay yet. Nevertheless, considering the fact that it’s now in beta stage, it shouldn’t surprise to see it accessible to users well before the year ends.
