Sarawak Plans To Develop Hydrogen As A Renewable Energy Source

According to a recent report by The Star, Sarawak is currently collaborating with Japan and South Korea to produce hydrogen as part of its plans to become a hydrogen economy pioneer by 2030.
The Sarawak state government adds their intent at capitalising the state’s renowned abundance of natural resources, which includes water, towards developing hydrogen as renewable energy sources.
According to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he added that the state wanted to do its part to help mitigate climate change and reduce carbon emissions through this effort too.
He continued by saying that the key is to use renewable energy, in which Sarawak has the advantage of producing hydropower, and the potential to do so in the future with the production of green hydrogen.
Adding on to that, he emphasised the necessity for Sarawak to explore new areas and transform its economic situation with a focus on sustainability, aside from the fact that the world's economy is moving in a similar direction.
‘’We have to align ourselves with global needs and find alternative energy to reduce carbon dioxide, for example in the transport sector’’ he added.
On a different note, Sarawak Pekema and SEDC Energy were cooperating together to promote and expand the electric mobility landscape in line with the state's environmental sustainability policies, confirms Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain.
Abdul Aziz also welcomes organisations like Pekema Sarawak to ally themselves with SEDC Energy in the pursuit of green mobility by way of developing the electric vehicle (EV) market in Sarawak and hopes to bring in more EVs.
Presently, the Tesla Model Y is the first vehicle deployed in a pilot subscription model that’s being tested by SEDC Energy.
