Volvo Malaysia To Export Locally-Assembled Electric Vehicles To Vietnam And Philippines
With new exportations to Vietnam and the Philippines expected this year, Volvo Car Malaysia announced its most recent step toward realising its electrification ambitions. Deliveries from the e-luxury company started to Indonesia, a neighbouring country, last year. In March 2022, Volvo Car Malaysia unveiled the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, the company's first-ever electric vehicle in Malaysia, to kick off its electrification efforts.
Customers responded enthusiastically to the all-electric premium SUV, with orders for the Model Year 2022 being closed after 400 in the first month of its release. The C40 Recharge Pure Electric, the company's second locally built electric vehicle, was unveiled in December 2022, beginning the next phase of its electrification journey. Charles Frump, managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said the company's vision of an entirely electric Malaysia is gradually coming true.
"Our assembly plant here in Malaysia plays an important role in our electrification ambition as we bring our electric vehicles to two more Asean countries – Vietnam and the Philippines. "The exportation of our locally assembled electric vehicles is one of our many steps to propel Malaysia to becoming a hub for electric vehicles in the Asean region.”
"With the capabilities of assembling electric vehicles locally, Volvo Car Malaysia’s local assembly plant provides an excellent opportunity to assert Volvo Car Malaysia’s position as a leading premium electric car maker and drive Malaysians further towards an all-electric future," he said. Volvo Car Malaysia is on the right track with goals to become a fully electric car company by 2030 and to have 75% of its sales come from its Recharge Pure Electric line-up by 2025.
The launch of its "Online Sales" platform, the company's first-ever attempt to sell cars directly to its customers in Malaysia with the aim of establishing personal relationships with them, was a component of the initiative to electrify Malaysia. The detailed instructions can be found here on Volvo Car Malaysia's "Online Sales" platform. Volvo Car Malaysia is the first luxury automaker in Malaysia to have a local assembly plant that assembles fully electric vehicles. It was also the first luxury automaker in Malaysia to offer a full range of completely knocked down (CKD) plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).
A record 3,194 sales were made by Volvo Car Malaysia in 2022, a 43% increase from the year before and the seventh year in a row of sales growth. As they get closer to their 2025 goal, the company also wants to sell more electric vehicles.
