Atelier Jalaper Present Actual Lamborghini Miura Piece Within The AJ-400P

The Lamborghini Miura is a legend, and not just of its time. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sports cars ever made, and it established the template for the rear mid-engined two-seat supercar. Fewer than 1,000 Miuras were produced between 1966 and 1973, and they regularly fetch seven-figure sums at auction. While the car is out of reach for many of us, Atelier Jalaper has found a way to incorporate a small piece of it into the dial of the AJ-P400 watch.


The watch, like the car, will be produced in limited quantities, as car parts aren't exactly easy to come by. The watch takes other design cues from the Miura, and brings it all together in a mostly respectful manner.

The AJ-P400 is available in four colorways, each of which is a variation on the colours seen on the original Miura, with light blue, green, and orange joining a full black dial.


The blue appears to be inspired by Azzuro Mexico, the green by Verde Rio Metalizzato, and the orange by Arancio, though none appear to be dead ringers for the distinctive paint codes. The colour is used sparingly, appearing only in the chapter ring rehaut at the dial's rim. However, given the colours, it's more than enough to make a statement.


According to the brand, the star of the show is the central dial piece, which is a piece of an actual Lamborghini Miura. According to Atelier Jalaper, it took them over a year before finding what they were looking for in France, and what they found was "a piece of aluminium separating the V12 from the burned body of a Miura P400S".

The 39.5mm steel case and dial also reference a car design feature in the headlight structure and surround. The circle within an oval design was a brilliant way to incorporate the shape of the headlight into the low-slung hood without compromising the overall lines of the car, and we see the same shapes at work within the case and dial of the AJ-P400.


To pay homage to its inspiration, the dial is given a rough textured finish. It works aesthetically here as well, though many prefer they left the date aperture off to preserve more of the material itself, which is kind of the whole point of this watch.

Inside, an exhibition caseback reveals Atelier Jalaper's use of a handwound Sellita SW270. The price is set at $2,000 (approx MYR8,940), and only 400 examples will be produced. The watch is currently available for pre-order from Atelier Jalaper.
