Multi Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) POC To Apply RFID, Number Plate Recognition At Sungai Besi Expressway

In a statement issued today, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) announced that the ongoing Multi-Lane-Fast-Flow (MLFF) toll system will be operated at Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) using a combination of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) as well as Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).
According to LLM’s announcement via its FB page, the Proof of Concept (POC) for the MLFF system will be implemented on the highway by the end of October 2023.
It further said the POC at will also involve full-scale MLFF gantries to evaluate the efficiency of the MLFF front-end gantries against the key performance indicators to be set in future highway operations.
‘’The combination of RFID and ANPR technology was studied and decided by the MLFF Technical Committee as well as the Value Assessment Lab and Value Engineering Lab with the involvement of various technical agencies,’’ it highlighted in a statement today.

Thus, said initiative aligns with the government's announcement earlier this week to have Sungai Besi Expressway as the first location for the application of MLFF POC.
To recap, Nanta also announced five new highways will embrace the new open toll payment system to begin in mid-September of this year - Damansara - Puchong Expressway (LDP), Sprint Highway, Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Smart Tunnel including the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX).
