WAZE To Roll Out EV Charging Points On Its Maps - Owners Must Input Vehicle & Plug Type
When it comes to ownership of electric vehicles (EV), range anxiety has always been the core issue amongst EV owners potential future hopefuls. This is especially so when it comes to planning a long distance trip.
Well, worry not soon Malaysia’s most popular navigation app, Waze, will roll out a new feature that will make it easier for EV owners to locate charging stations while on the road. Drivers may now enter their vehicle's make and plug type, and Waze will provide up-to-date information on charging stations along their journey.
Google, the company which now owns Waze, had rolled out a similar function to its Google Map back in Feb 2023.
With this new feature, planned to be rolled out globally in the next coming weeks, each country's Local Map Editors from the Waze Community (check this out you too can actually be one) will analyse and update the EV data in real-time to ensure that users have access to the most accurate and comprehensive information. However, Waze also reminds all Map Editors to ONLY map out the public charging stations excluding all private charging facilities.
Waze's dedication to making EV charging more accessible is consistent with the growing popularity of electric vehicles. As more people move to EVs, the demand for charging stations will increase, and drivers will need to have access to trustworthy and up-to-date charging station information.
From what we can gather, Waze would best optimise an EV driver's route taking into account every available public charging station be it DC or AC to ensure safe arrival to their set destination. This EV feature is already available for drivers in Albania, Bosnia, Brazil, Chile, Estonia, Hungry, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, New Zealand, Poland, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, and Sweden.
