Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the official representative of Porsche brand in Malaysia, has ramped up their electromobility adoption by upgrading its high-performance EV charging facilities across all outlets.

The upgraded 350 kW DC chargers at Porsche Centre Ara Damansara

This upgrade sees all four Porsche Centres in the country getting twin-175 kW DC chargers, offering up to 350 kW charging speeds. This is also the first time such charging capabilities are available within a dealership facility. At this rate of charging, a Porsche Taycan can achieve 80% state-of-charge in only 23 minutes.

Commenting on this matter, SDAP CEO Christopher Hunter said, “Since we introduced our first all-electric sports car, the Porsche Taycan, alongside 175 kW high performance charging within our dealerships in 2020, we saw a growing demand and a rise in the number of EV sports car fans in Malaysia.”

“To demonstrate our commitment to the future of mobility, it has been our ongoing focus and responsibility to offer a holistic EV ownership experience to our most forward-looking customers,” the CEO added.

The newly-upgraded 350 kW EV chargers can juice up two Porsche Taycans simultaneously at 175 kW rate each. While waiting (shortly) for their cars to charge up, customers can indulge themselves with the refreshments provided at the new Werk 1 lounge, located in every Porsche Centres in Malaysia.

The high-performance 350 kW charging facility is now available at Porsche Centre Ara Damansara and Porsche Centre Penang. This upgrade will soon come to both Porsche Centre Sungai Besi and Porsche Centre Johor Bahru in June 2023.

To go along with this charger upgrade, SDAP has also installed a new solar panel roof for the car parks at Porsche Centre Penang. With 151 panels generating up to 81.51 kWp, the new solar car park could lead to an average reduction in electricity consumption of 30%, supporting the company’s ambition to reduce its carbon footprint, even as more electrified Porsche offerings appear on the horizon.

Aside from upgrading the charging facilities, SDAP has also collaborated with EV charging solutions provider Shell Recharge to build an extensive 180 kW high performance charging network across the peninsula Malaysia. This new charging network will be linked to both Thailand and Singapore’s charging networks, running alongside the North-South Expressway (PLUS).

Once completed, this cross-border charging network will form the longest EV-ready highway network in the ASEAN region.

“By introducing industry-leading partnerships such as the first cross-border 180 kW High Performance Charging network with Shell, and upgrading our current DC charging capabilities to 350 kW across Malaysia, we believe that we are powering the sports car experience of tomorrow with efficient and minimal charging times,” Mr. Hunter commented.

Porsche EV owners are entitled to additional benefits from this charging network, including a complementary Platinum subscription plan to the network with exclusive charging rates and charging lot reservation.
