Sarawak has proposed building the Trans-Borneo Railway, a train service that would run across the island of Borneo.
Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said today that the Sarawak government had submitted the railway proposal to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) in a meeting here.
"This is a federal government project, and the MoT will conduct a project study."
The train service is expected to run through Sabah and connect to the Indonesian province of Kalimantan, which will require discussions between Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei, as all three countries may be involved in this project.
He made the remarks today at a press conference following a briefing on a development project overseen by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda).
According to Abang Johari, if the project is successful, it will create economic opportunities in the areas where the train will run. "I believe the time has come for us to establish this train service, which will undoubtedly stimulate economic activity, particularly in terms of logistics," he said.
