GWM Cannon Ultra Set To Retail From RM127,800?
Leaked brochure scans posted online by a GWM dealer that appears to confirm the GWM Cannon's RM127,800 price tag. (Image source: Facebook)
Whilst casually browsing through social media this week, we’ve chanced upon sighting this posting from what appears to be a GWM dealer. Said posts features what we believe to be legitimate pricing details for the Chinese brand’s upcoming new offering, by which we mean the GWM Cannon pick-up truck.
To be more specific, the price list posted details the pricing scheme for said pick-up truck in ‘Ultra’ form, presumably for the passenger-focused P12 iteration – the P11 is positioned more as a workhorse instead. This dealer’s post suggests that said model will retail for RM127,800 on-the-road sans insurance.
What’s interesting to note here too is the after-sales coverage that comes with said price. As detailed in this social media post, GWM Malaysia will include a 5-year or 150,000 KM warranty for prospecting owners. Surely, this is a respectable coverage that ought to give greater peace of mind.
Details regarding specification and a targeted launch date weren’t revealed, but perhaps this dealer’s excitable move at jumping the gun is an indication that an official launch is imminent.
The GWM Cannon as seen during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 in P11 (bottom, left) and P12 (in blue) forms.
Earlier this year, the GWM Cannon pick-up truck was previewed to Malaysians for the first time during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023. Both the P11 commercial workhorse and more luxurious P12 passenger-focused variants were shown, and there’s indeed plenty to look forward to.
Leading the Cannon’s bill is a somewhat respectable-sounding 2.0-litre turbo-diesel 4-cyl powertrain that promises 161 HP and 400 NM. Managing said outputs is a ZF-supplied 8-speed automatic box plus a full-blown 4x4 driveline – traits typically expected of any pick-up truck.
The GWM Cannon in P12 form is positioned as the passenger-friendly options thanks to its extensive list of kit that includes an electric power steering module.

Besides a tech-laden cabin with a sleuth of ADAS features, the Cannon P12 is also primed with a segment-first integrated tailgate step.
Typical too is the Cannon’s chassis setup featuring double wishbone suspension assemblies up front and robust leafsprings at the rear. Key differences between the P11 and P12 lie in the wheels sizes and steering system, the latter getting larger 18-inch units and an electric power steering suite whilst the former rolls on smaller 17-inch size wheels and make do with a hydraulic power steering system instead.
Naturally, the P12 twin-cab variant is the one that’s set to get all the bell and whistles to make it both more capable and passenger-friendly. The list includes locking differentials, multiple selectable drive modes, all-LED forward and rear lighting, leather upholstery, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital meter panel, and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple and Android connectivity.
The Cannon P11 pictured is positioned as a commercial workhorse instead, even adopting arguably a more robust hydraulic power steering system.
On top of which comes several key additions too like steering-mounted paddle-shifters, power-adjustable front seats, 360-degree camera, plus a very nifty integrated tailgate step – that last feature seen for the first time amongst pick-up trucks of this size and (alleged) price. Also included are a string of active driver assist (ADAS) features promising Level 2 semi-autonomous driving abilities to boost safety too.
Given what we’ve just detailed, could this be the budget-friendly lifestyle pick-up truck that could perhaps sway you away from the usual suspects, i.e. this or this? Or would you rather go for a similar left-field alternative that bears a familiar European badge instead? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
