In a swift and widespread operation targeting speeding violations, PDRM has issued a total of 8,718 summonses across the nation during the "Op Saman Ekor," which commenced on August 21.

According to BERNAMA, Deputy Director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) revealed that the majority of these summonses, precisely 8,352, were issued to motorists who exceeded the speed limit. Motorcyclists received 44 summonses for similar violations, while commercial and service vehicles were cited with a combined total of 322 summonses.

Rather than issuing summons to drivers on the spot, a K170A summons notification for exceeding the speed limit is mailed to the car owner's address as recorded on their driver's licence. These mail summonses can be resolved in any police district traffic offices nationwide.

Mohd Nasri underlined that the purpose of Operation Saman Ekor is to remind all road users of the significance of following traffic regulations. He emphasised the operation's use of high-speed cameras to photograph any drivers violating specified speed limits, which resulted in the issuance of K170A notifications to the alleged offenders. It is worth noting that exceeding statutory speed limits is a major contributor to traffic accidents in the country, frequently resulting in drivers losing control of their vehicles.
