Sime Darby Motors Sets Up New Training Academy

Sime Darby Motors announces the establishment of its new and dedicated training academy this week.
The Malaysian Retail & Distribution arm of Sime Darby Motors marked a milestone this week as it announces the establishment of its new dedicated training academy. Located within Sime Darby Motors City, Ara Damansara, it aims to empower Sime Darby Motor’s entire workforce with the latest skills and knowledge.
The new training facility features up to nine classrooms in total that’s able to accommodate 163 trainees. By establishing itself within the premises of Sime Darby Motors City, the academy will leverage on the facilities and equipment present here as its training resources.
Notably, to ensure a highly-skilled workforce for EV retail and aftersales services, this new academy is also equipped with training vehicles, training props, computer labs and other EV-related equipment to take employees to the next level of skills development.

Located within Sime Darby Motors City, Ara Damansara, the new training academy leverages on the facilities and equipment present there as its training resources.
Through this academy, trainees are provided with two main certification programs. The first involves technical and non-technical training to meet Principal Certification requirements. These are conducted by 11 in-house trainers who have undergone the same certification by world-leading brands Sime Darby Motors represents.
Next comes the Sime Darby Motors training program that focuses on talent development to enhance organisational skills and knowledge. It includes soft skills such as personal and professional development, skills enhancement, customer service, sales closing techniques and more. This training is conducted by professional in-house trainers, as well as a network of certified training providers.
By establishing this training academy, Sime Darby Motors’s Malaysian Retail & Distribution arm seeks to consolidate and optimise resources across the whole organisation for more efficient, effective and frequent employee training. In turn, this will help address the skills gap, especially as Malaysia transitions towards EVs, in addition to contributing to local talent development and economic growth.

The newly established Sime Darby Motors training academy seeks to empower the entire group's workforce with the latest skills and knowledge.
“Our goal is to scale the Academy into a regional training hub for our Retail & Distribution operations across Southeast Asia to ignite a collective passion for learning, fostering growth that resonates across boundaries and transforms lives,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director, Retail & Distribution, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau, regarding this newly established academy.
Gan further notes that this academy will also enable us the group focus on emerging technologies and trends, thus future-proofing itself for the next generation of vehicles – EVs in particular. This will also allow the group and the brands its represents to stay ahead of the competition and adapt to changing market demands effectively, Gan continued.
