Volkswagen Malaysia today has published a new teaser of the upcoming update for the Volkswagen Golf R Mk8 model. We’ve previously reported on rumours pertaining to the Golf R, which suggested that Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM) is looking to locally-assemble (CKD) this souped-up model as a bid to make it more affordable.

Back to the teaser posted via Volkswagen Malaysia’s official Facebook page, it showcases a series of censored photos of the new Golf R model. Upon further inspection, you’ll notice that this model comes with the Performance Pack – which is not offered as standard to the current fully-imported (CBU) Golf R model on sale here.

The Performance Pack adds a slew of sporty cosmetics update to the Golf R

This Performance Pack grants this super hot hatch a slew of cosmetics upgrade, including the more aggressive rear wing, new quad-piped exhaust system, as well  as the 19-inch Estoril wheels – the same one we saw on the special Golf R 333. Aside from the cosmetics upgrade, this pack also grants the Golf R with two new drive modes – Drift and Special – with the latter also known as the ‘Nurburgring’ mode in selected markets.

The VW Golf GTI CKD gets the IQ.Drive ADAS suite in its latest model update earlier this year

Aside from that, there’s nothing much can be derived from the teaser images, except that we can expect this updated Golf R model will make its local debut soon. Similar to the recently-updated Golf GTI and Arteon R-Line, we can also expect this updated hot-hatch to feature VW’s latest IQ.Drive advanced driver assistance suite – which is not offered in the current version.

As we mentioned earlier, there have been rumours that the new Golf R will be locally-assembled in VPCM’s Pekan facility, as revealed by an anonymous Volkswagen dealer who has opened the order books for this updated Golf R model. Should this be true, then we can see the new Golf R’s price tag to be lower than the current CBU unit’s RM431,162 on-the-road sans insurance asking price. Regardless of how much it will be priced, this will definitely bring some good news to VW Golf fans out there.
