Polestar Developing Smartphone To Seamlessly Sync With Its Luxury EVs
-full_normal.jpg)
Polestar, a Swedish-based, Chinese-owned EV manufacturer, will launch its own smartphone in December, according to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, who spoke to CNBC this week at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany.
The device will be manufactured by Xingji Meizu, a smartphone manufacturer owned by Polestar's parent company, Geely.

This does not appear to be an attempt to compete with China's major smartphone manufacturers, such as Apple and Oppo.
Rather, Ingenlath told the network, "this will become a way to highlight all the ways in which Polestar's technology-packed cars are basically just computers on wheels." -full_normal.jpg)

Ingenlath also stated that the new phone will be a "premium" device in order to complete Polestar 4, which he believes compete with BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche.
It also bears the hallmarks of Geely's attempt to launch its smartphone subsidiary into a larger market segment than the one it currently occupies. Polestar is a premium EV manufacturer, so Xingji Meizu, which primarily manufactures midtier phones, has an opportunity to sell its products to a wealthier class of consumers.
According to CNBC, Polestar will build cars that use Xingji Meizu's software, which could make syncing your phone to your car easier.

Polestar has a number of other brand partnerships, including one with Sweden's Cake to produce a pair of electric mopeds. In addition, Polestar is collaborating with Sweden's Allebike on a non-electric mountain bike under the Polestar brand. Ingenlath has also stated that the company's next e-bikes should be more than just a "marketing stunt."
