Honda Prelude Returns As A Sporty Coupe EV Concept At JMS 2023

The iconic Honda Prelude has been reborn as a sporty coupe EV concept!
Stealing all the limelight at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2023 today is the brand-new EV concept by Honda with a familiar nameplate. Say hello to the all-new Honda Prelude Concept – the marque’s latest two-door electric concept that is set to spearhead the marque’s next-gen sportscar lineup.

The Prelude Concept departs from the traditional design of its predecessors, featuring a very sporty and sleek body style in a noticeably bigger form. For starters, this EV coupe concept sports a clean front face featuring sharp LED headlights that are connected by an LED light bar that sits above its front bumper. Similarly, the lower portion of the front bumper is also being kept rather clean, featuring mesh air insert finished in black.

Take a glance at the Prelude Concept’s side profile and you’ll be forgiven for mistaking it for the Toyota GR 86 or Subaru BRZ. Aside from the sporty coupe roofline that tapers down at the rear, the side part also comes with flushed food handles, sleek dark-hued side mirrors, as well as the black-hued 20-inch alloy wheels the concept rides on, with blue-hued brake callipers hiding beneath them.

At the back, the car’s steep rear windscreen tapers down all the way to its tailgate, where it is mated to a dark-hued ducktail-style rear wing. Plus, the rear part is also donned with the full-width LED taillight bar, plus a dark-hued lower rear bumper to match with the front one.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing to report about the innards of the new Prelude Concept, as all the car’s doors remain shut during the presentation, while its windows are tinted with dark window film, preventing us from having a sneak peak into its cabin.
Aside from that, Honda has also remained cautious in revealing other details of this coupe EV concept, with the Japanese marque claiming that this sporty EV will deliver “the joy of driving” and “provide extraordinary excitement that you have never felt before.” As for its powertrain, we’ve only been told that this concept boasts some kind of all-electric powertrain, which Honda is currently finalising on its development.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe unveiled that the new Prelude Concept will spearhead marque's future sportscar models
More importantly, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe shared in his speech that this new concept model "will become the prelude for our future model which will inherit the 'joy of driving' into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda's unalterable sports mindset."
So folks, what do you think of the all-new Honda Prelude Concept? Do you think this new coupe EV concept has done justice to the iconic nameplate? Looking forward to seeing a production version of this concept coming later in the near future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below…
