Revealed to the world today is the all-new Nissan Hyper Urban – a sustainability-focused urban EV concept developed by Nissan. Beyond its radical design, the Hyper Urban also features Nissan’s latest cutting-edge EV technology that will be used in future Nissan EV models.
Set to make its public debut at the upcoming 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS), the Hyper Urban concept follows the equally-striking 20-23 concept EV hot-hatch previewed last week – with only the former being part of the marque’s new ‘hyper’ concepts lineup.

Designed to make "a bold statement while also effectively blending in with its environment," the Hyper Urban features a pretty sleek silhouette that is contrasted by its aggressive and radical aero parts. Equally radical is the Hyper Urban’s scissor-style doors feature at both the front and rear, which are then coupled with wide fenders that house its super-wide tyres.
Elsewhere, this EV concept is also draped in a special chromatic shade of yellow, which changes colour according to the angle of the light hitting it.
Things are equally radical once we step inside the Hyper Urban, as the cabin design is said to be inspired by kaleidoscopic triangles. Key highlights include the front seats that can be folded down to create a lounge-like sofa seating layout, plus a customisable digital instrument cluster and infotainment that can be easily removed for replacement or hardware upgrade.
On the EV tech front, Nissan does not specify any details on the Hyper Urban’s electric platform, nor its battery pack and motor setup. However, the Japanese marque boasts that the Hyper Urban is packed with stellar vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging capabilities.
Controlled by artificial intelligence (AI), these two charging technologies essentially allow the vehicle to power both homes and the local electricity grid during peak demand, and being and being charged during periods of low demand. More impressive is that Nissan claims owners can even make money from providing power to the local grid.
Alongside the 20-23 EV concept and other Nissan Hyper EV concepts, the Nissan Hyper Urban will spearhead the marque's rapid electromobility adoption in Europe
The unveiling of the Nissan Hyper Urban is also in-line with the marque’s plan to only launch EV models in Europe from now on. To materialise this plan, Nissan is aiming at least 19 new EV models in the European market by the end of this decade, which may include the production version of both the Hyper Urban and 20-23 concepts.
The all-new Nissan Hyper Urban will make its first public appearance at the upcoming 2023 JMS (also known as the Tokyo Motor Show), happening later in Oct 26. This aggressive concept model will be posed alongside three other Nissan Hyper EV concept series, which we’ll probably get to know more about as we get closer to its public unveiling.
