LOKE : Fixed Price Flights To Continue This Holiday Season

Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke declared that the government will keep providing fixed-price plane tickets over the holiday season. This procedure, which was already in effect this year, aims to control the rise in demand for travel.

Loke emphasised that rather than placing a price cap, which would stifle dynamic pricing, the government will encourage airlines to increase the frequency of their flights. Loke continued by saying that selective intervention is part of the government's agenda.

In order to accommodate the increased demand, airlines will be urged to add midnight flights throughout the holiday season, along with extended airport operations and traffic control. Because they have fewer options for travel, Malaysians from Sabah and Sarawak are likely to benefit the most from this programme.

Many airlines have already jumped on board this strategy, lowering prices by increasing the number of midnight flights they operate over the holiday season. Loke also brought up a new government programme aimed at assisting Bornean university students pursuing their studies on the Peninsula. The government has given these students RM300 coupons to use when they are travelling between Sarawak, Sabah, and the Peninsular.

Although there was no formal budget for this endeavour, Loke claimed that it was effectively completed by reallocating funds that were left over from previous allotments. At a cost of RM16.8 million, this project—announced in July—aims to support around 56,000 public university students nationwide.
