More Than 900 Compound Notices Issued For Excessive Vehicle Emissions In Three Months

In the third quarter of this year, the Environment Department issued a total of 934 compound notices to motor vehicle owners for pollutant emissions exceeding the stipulated standards in operations conducted throughout the country, The Star reported.

The operation involved the inspection of 31,536 vehicles during 4,438 enforcement operations and was divided into four categories: diesel static ops (20,687 vehicles inspected and 271 compound notices issued); petrol static ops (478 inspected, 28 compound notices issued); motorcycle noise ops (9,245 vehicles inspected, 625 compound notices issued); and motorcycle gas ops (1,126 vehicles inspected, 10 compound notices issued).

Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar, the department's director-general, stated that action was taken against vehicles that did not meet the set limit of 50% black smoke density, and that static operations would continue throughout the country.
