New Gentari 60 kW DCFC In Sungai Petani, Kedah

Gentari has established its presence in Kedah by setting up its first DC charging station at the Proton 4S Mercu outlet in Sungai Petani.
The installation of Gentari EV charging stations at select Proton locations stems from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Gentari and Proton's new energy subsidiary PRO-NET in Oct 2022. Both companies have pledged to explore various solutions to improve Malaysia's charging network.

The charging station at Proton 4S Mercu sees a single 60 kW DC cabinet with dual CCS gun configuration. However, a quick check via Jomcharge App reveals that only one gun can be used at a time. This would imply that the usual power split of 30 kW per gun would not be implemented here. Charging session bookings and payments for this station can be done via the JomCharge, Setel, or ChargEV apps.
The charging rate at this facility is set at RM1.40/min. We reckon this minute-based charges is temporary as kWh-based rates can only be used at stations licensed by the Energy Commission (ST). However, despite the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz's promise to speed things up, ST licence issuance has been slow recently.

The Gentari Proton 4S Mercu facility is now the highest output DC charging station in the Sungai Petani area, next to the ChargeSini's 40 kW DC facility at Purest Hotel. Despite being in the Proton 4S centre, the Gentari EV charging facility is open to all EV brands at any time of day according to Plugshare.
