Production-Ready Renault 5 E-Tech Teased Ahead of 2024 Debut

Renault has published new teaser images of the production-ready Renault 5 E-Tech EV hatchback
After showcasing both the concept and prototype, Renault is finally ready to launch the all-electric revival of its iconic hatch model, the Renault 5. Known as the Renault 5 E-Tech, the French automaker has provided with several teaser images of this production-ready EV hatch ahead of its debut later next year.

One of the standout features shown by these teaser images is the unique charge indicator display placed on top of the hood – taking place where the signature intake of the original Renault 5 used to be. This LED panel will light up whenever the car is connected to a charger, while displaying the current battery level. Once the car is fully-charged, the LED panel will display the number ‘5’.

Both the R5 E-Tech's headlights and taillights look similar to what we saw on its prototype twin
Aside from that, we also get to see the lighting units of the new R5, which to no one’s surprises, boast similar design to what we saw on its prototype twin. Up front, the R5 E-Tech gets a similar LED headlight design, now with different light signatures inside. Meanwhile, the LED taillights feature a vertical design that is inspired from the original R5, with both units connected by a black trim accent with the 5 badging placed.

More details of the new R5 E-Tech can be seen from this next teaser image, showcasing the EV hatch’s side profile. From here, you’ll see the new R5 sports protruding rear fenders plus a small rear wing at the back – both inspired by the original R5 Turbo hot-hatch. Aside from those and its pronounced shoulder line, there’s nothing much else we can derive from this shadow-draped side profile image.

Apart from these teaser images, we’ve been told prior that the new R5 E-Tech is both designed and manufactured in France under Ampere – Renault’s newly-formed electric vehicles development arm. Measuring 3,920 MM long, the R5 E-Tech underpins the new AmpR Small platform (formerly known as the CMF-BEV), while featuring a multi-link rear suspension setup – both promising stellar drive performance as its iconic predecessor. Plus, Renault has confirmed that the R5 E-Tech will be offered with either a 40-kWh unit or a bigger 52-kWh pack, with the latter providing up to 400 KM of maximum EV range (WLTP).

Set to make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show happening in Feb next year, the all-new Renault 5 E-Tech is slated for a price tag around the €25,000 (RM125,000 approx.) region. This will place this funky French EV hatch against other European adversaries like the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2, Peugeot E-208, and many more.
