Rebooted Korean automaker SsangYong, now going by its new KG Mobility brand name, took centre stage at this week’s Seoul Mobility Show 2023. Besides the Torres EVX electric SUV model, the firm also showed off 3 new concept electric vehicles (EVs) alongside it.
We’ll start with the Torres EVX, the electric crossover SUV offering unveiled earlier this month that employs lithium iron phosphate batteries from China’s BYD that are engineered with greater resistance against external shocks and be less prone to fires. No specific capacity was mentioned, but KG Mobility claims that the model will be able to cover up to 500 KM on a single charge.
Reports from within South Korea indicate that the Torres is set to go on sale later this year where it will command a base price of KRW30 million (approx. RM101,432.73).
Moving on to the 3 new concepts, the trio comprises the O100 pick-up truck, the KR10 mid-size SUV, and the futuristic F100 SUV. These were produced by KG Mobility to reflect its mission statement. Building from the ashes of the bankrupted SsangYong marque, these new concept vehicles represent the company’s vision for the segments it seeks to enter, and the designs of each should help it stand out too.
KG Mobility F100 concept.
Arguably the most avant-garde of the trio is the F100, which sports a striking and massive front grille made up entirely of LED lights that can be customised to reflect the owner’s mood or personality. However, towards the rear, the F100 looks much less futuristic, sporting a silhouette that’s similar to that of the Toyota FJ Cruiser here in fact.
KG Mobility O100 concept.
Moving on to the O100 concept, KG Mobility presents it as a mid-sized pick-up truck made for urban drivers. Its design is actually inspired by the Torres EVX, a fact evident through its light signature up front. Additionally, the concept is envisioned as having V2L connectors that allow future owners to power up things such as tools at work sites, or perhaps a cooler fridge during a beach outing.
KG Mobility KR10 concept.
Over to the KR10, this particular concept ought to look and feel familiar towards Korean customers in particular. That’s because this concept is envisioned as a follow-up successor to the SsangYong Korando compact compact crossover SUV model last seen in 2019.
Having spanned over four generations, the Korando nameplate is indeed four decades old now, but KG Mobility claims that the model stands as a leading SUV in its native home market of South Korea. The vehicle is now pushing 40 and KG Mobility claims it is the leading SUV in Korea.
What do you think of KG Mobility’s renewed efforts to reboot SsangYong through the Torres EVX and the 3 new concepts envisioned? Reckon these will see life outside South Korea as export offerings too? Hit the comments below with your thoughts then…
