Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept Unveiled Ahead of Its New York Auto Show Debut

Luxury South Korean automaker Genesis is set to debut the all-new GV80 Coupe Concept in the upcoming 2023 New York International Auto Show. This concept coupe SUV is the sportier twin of the marque’s flagship luxury SUV, the GV80.
Launched at Genesis House New York, the GV80 Coupe Concept is a four-seater sporty SUV that takes inspiration from yet another sporty concept model from Genesis, the X Speedium Coupe Concept. As a result, the GV80 Coupe Concept blends both the X Speedium Coupe and GV80 styling cues, forming a sporty-looking SUV with a breath of luxury.
Genesis described the GV80 Coupe Concept as “a statement of intent for more emotional, performance-oriented models and a preview of Genesis’ future programs.”

From the front end, the GV80 Coupe Concept truly stands out from the existing GV80, featuring dual slim LED headlights with new multi-lens array technology. Those are flanked on either side of the massive front grille, which gives it a Bentley-esque look at a glimpse. There’s also more aggressive air intakes on the lower part of the bumper, shrouded in black to give it a sporty edge.

On the side, the biggest news is the sporty, sloping roofline that gives this concept its ‘coupe’ moniker. Interestingly, the roof is moulded out of carbon fibre, while the front quarter panels rock horizontal dual LED lights that continue from the front. In terms of ride height, the GV80 Coupe Concept sits lower compared to its GV80 twin, while rolling on a set of massive forged aluminium wheels.

At the rear part, this concept model boasts full-width dual LED taillights that continue from the front and side lights, creating some sort of double-LED light bars that go around the car. Just like many other coupe SUVs, the GV80 Coupe Concept also rocks a dual spoiler setup – one for the roof, one for the trunk.
Elsewhere, this concept model is imbued in special orange hue dubbed as Magma, which blends well with several carbon fibre/blacked-out parts of the exterior.

On board, the GV80 Coupe Concept is a far cry from its luxury twin, featuring carbon fibre bucket seats for all four passengers. These lightweight, racing-oriented seats are wrapped with Nappa and suede leather material, while their back parts are finished in the same Magma hue as the body colour.

Topping-off the GV80 Coupe Concept’s performance-oriented equipment list are the large strut bar sitting behind the rear seats, as well as the three-spoke sporty steering wheel that features some carbon fibre accents and cladded in black Nappa and suede leather with orange stitching.

As for now, Genesis has yet to disclose any details pertaining to its powertrain specs, aside from the fact that it is primed with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration. For reference, the concept model’s twin, the range-topping Genesis GV80 SUV harnesses a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 mill, capable of delivering up to 375 HP.

Commenting on the idea behind creating this sporty concept SUV, Hyundai Group CCO Luc Donckerwolke said, “At its inception, the Genesis brand began creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80, and G90 models.
“Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that elevate Genesis’ performance and dynamic attributes,” the Hyundai exec added.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept is poised to make its global public debut in the upcoming 2023 New York International Auto Show, taking place from Apr 7 to 16. By then, we’ll get to know more about this new concept model that will pave the way for future performance-oriented models from Genesis.
