With the face-lifted 2023/2024 Mazda2 hatch debuting first back in Jan this year, we now get our first proper look said sub-compact model’s booted sedan version as it officially debuted in Thailand earlier this week alongside it’s the refreshed twin mentioned.

Thanks to Thailand’s Headlight Magazine online, we also now have scores of images of the refreshed and booted Mazda2 to gauge. Like its hatch twin, there are plenty of minor but still very visible aesthetic changes all around.

Like the hatch, the sedan now boasts 2 distinctively redesigned grilles, one looking more like an EV as it's mostly closed off, and the other being a sporty choice featuring a honeycomb grille insert finished in black. (Images: Headlight Magazine)

Key amongst which is the reprofiled front fascia featuring two distinct grille designs depending on variant. The first of the latter offers a look more akin to an EV with its largely closed-off grille design, followed by another look that features blacked-out honeycomb grille pattern mesh insert.

Besides new body colour options, the refreshed exterior includes a set of new 15-inch (petrol) and 16-inch (diesel) alloy wheel designs. (Image: Headlight Magazine)

Both also see restyled trim surround finished in black. At the rear, things appear largely unchanged in this. Whilst on the exterior still, it’s worth noting that the refreshed sedan version also gets a variety of new 15-inch (petrol) and 16-inch (diesel) alloy wheel options, plus a selection of new body hues too.

On board, changes to the cabin appear minimal. The MZD Connect infotainment screen has grown in size to 8-inches now, and there are new body-coloured dash panels too . (Image: Mazda Thailand).

On board, the cabin design layout remains as before, but it’s now brightened up with new coloured dash panels that match the exterior hue. Like the hatch, the central free-standing infotainment screen has grown slightly in size to 8-inches now, and it continues to be powered using the MZD Connect suite.

As before, the Thais enjoy 2 powertrain choices, those being a 1.3-litre 4-cyl petrol alongside a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel. Both are paired with 6-speed auto boxes. (Image: Headlight Magazine)

For the Thai market, the Mazda2 sedan can be had with either a 1.3-litre naturally aspirated 4-cyl petrol mill, or a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel. The former outputs 93 PS and 123 NM whilst the latter serves up 105 PS and a meatier 250 NM instead. Both are also paired with 6-speed automatic boxes.

5 variants of the refreshed Mazda2 hatch and sedan on offer in Thailand base don their fuel type. Petrol-powered variants are designated as the 1.3 C, 1.3 S and the 1.3 SP, while oil-burners are christened as the 1.5 XD and 1.5 XDL instead. Also, only the hatch variants carry the ‘Sports’ naming suffix.

2023/2024 Mazda2 Hatchback facelift that first surfaced online earlier this year. In Thailand, this version carries the 'Sports'  designation too.

In terms of kit, both the sedan and hatch share common bits like LED headlights and DRLs combination, smart keyless entry and ignition, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for the enlarged infotainment unit mentioned.

As for prices, the refreshed Mazda2 range retails in the kingdom north of our border from as low as THB599,000 (approx. RM79,850) for the entry-level 1.3 C sedan and 1.3 C Sports hatch variant. The range caps at THB830,000 (approx. RM110,630) for the oil-burning 1.5 XDL sedan and 1.5 XDL Sports.

No indications as to when this refreshed Mazda2 will enter Malaysia through Bermaz, but we reckon it will happen soon enough... (Image: Headlight Magazine)

At present, it’s uncertain as to when local Mazda brand vanguards Bermaz will introduce this refreshed 2023/2024 Mazda2 sub-compact hatch and sedan for Malaysia. However, given the model’s arrival in Thailand, we can perhaps see this happen soon enough.

Would you fancy this face-lifted version of Mazda’s sub-compact B-segment fighter over established favourites like the new Toyota Vios (AC100) or the updated Toyota Yaris hatch? Perhaps you'd favour this still over the upcoming refreshed Honda City or its Hatchback twin? Hit the comments below with your thoughts, then…
