Is Chery Malaysia Going to Launch The Tiggo 4 Pro This Year?
Aside from the Omoda E5 & Tiggo 7 Pro, Chery Malaysia also plans to launch a more affordable, higher-volume model later this year.
During its annual press conference earlier this week, Chery Malaysia laid out a pretty ambitious plan for 2024, with the Chinese automaker set to expand its local venture further than before. Apart from launching its first-ever all-electric model, the Omoda E5, Chery is also planning to expand its ICE-powered SUV lineup by launching two new models by the end of this year.
While the automaker has announced that one of those models will be the Tiggo 7 Pro C-SUV, which will bridge the gap between the Tiggo 8 Pro D-SUV and the Omoda 5, Chery Malaysia is also planning to bring one final model later in Q4 this year. Though no specific names or models were mentioned, Chery did hint that the last one would be something more affordable that they could sell in higher volumes.
Chery Tiggo 4 Pro previewed in Malaysia back in 2022
With all these clues in mind, it is safe to assume that this mysterious model could be the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. Of all the models previewed by Chery back during its 2022 market re-entry announcement, the Tiggo 4 Pro is the only model that has yet to be launched here, as the Tiggo 7 Pro’s arrival has basically been confirmed already.
Positioned as a B-segment SUV, the Tiggo 4 Pro measures 4,318 mm long, 1,831 mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 2,610 mm – making it somewhat similar in size to the marque’s current B-SUV fighter, the Omoda 5. Though slightly smaller than said B-SUV model, the Tiggo 4 Pro is still noticeably larger than both the Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V, with both models often touted as ‘true’ B-segment SUVs on sale in our market.
The Tiggo 4 Pro comes with either a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp or turbocharged powertrain options
On the powertrain front, the Tiggo 4 Pro is offered with either a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp petrol mill or a peppier 1.5-litre 4-cyl TGDI mill rated at 145 HP and 210 NM borrowed from the Omoda 5. While the latter is only paired to a CVT automatic gearbox, the nat-asp mill is also offered with a five-speed manual option in several markets, though we doubt this would be available for our local market.
Visually, the Tiggo 4 Pro carries some familiar design traits derived from its two bigger siblings, the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Key highlights include the massive front grille with Chery’s diamond pattern, sharp LED headlights, conventional boxy SUV body style, and many more.
Just like most Chery models nowadays, the Tiggo 4 Pro’s cabin is pretty well-equipped. Standard tech bits like a floating central infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera view system, and a powered sunroof are all present here. Though we don’t know the exact specs for the Malaysian-bound Tiggo 4 Pro, we can expect almost all of these bits to be present.
The Tiggo 4 Pro's arrival will complete Chery Malaysia's Tiggo SUV lineup, alongside the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro
Although it may sound counterintuitive for Chery to launch the Tiggo 4 Pro, as it may overlap with the Omoda 5, both the Honda WR-V’s arrival alongside the existing HR-V and the success of the Perodua Ativa just proved that there’s a growing demand for small, compact SUVs in our market. Should Chery Malaysia decide to bring the Tiggo 4 Pro, this subcompact SUV is slated to arrive much later in Q4 this year, making way for both the Omoda E5 EV and the Tiggo 7 Pro first.
With the Ativa topping out just below the RM75,000 mark, while the WR-V starts at RM89,900, how much should Chery price the upcoming Tiggo 4 Pro? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below…
