BorgWarner Inc. has formed a partnership with FinDreams Battery, BYD's battery manufacturing subsidiary, to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs designed for commercial vehicles.
Under this agreement, BYD will provide BorgWarner with its proprietary blade battery cells technology, which will be used to manufacture battery packs in Europe and the Americas.

The partnership is set to last eight years and would grant BorgWarner access to FinDreams' intellectual property rights related to the LFP battery pack design and manufacturing process.

This is also in-line with BYD’s global expansion plan not only in the vehicle manufacturing front, but also in licensing its battery technology for other automotive brands. Currently, BYD supplies its battery to the likes of Tesla, Ford, Kia, Toyota and more.
BorgWarner, a prominent US-based tier 1 automotive supplier has been expanding its footprint in China and recently commenced electric motor production for Xpeng X9 MPV. Additionally, BorgWarner is set to supply its proprietary dual inverter with a boost function to a leading Chinese OEM brand, speculated to be Great Wall Motor, for their plug-in hybrid and electric range-extended vehicle platforms.

Furthermore, BorgWarner's collaboration with BYD establishes it as the sole non-OEM manufacturer with the exclusive right to localise LFP battery packs for commercial vehicles in specific regions.
BorgWarner's President and CEO, Frédéric Lissalde, praised the partnership's ability to meet the growing global demand for LFP battery packs, citing FinDreams Battery's extensive experience in the field.
Meanwhile, Micheal He, President and CEO of FinDreams Battery, echoed the sentiment, emphasising the collaboration's strategic importance in light of geopolitical complexities and increasing adoption of LFP electrification in international commercial vehicle markets.
