In ushering in the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced toll exemptions exclusively for private vehicles (Class 1) for two days.

The toll free travel period would run from midnight 12.01AM, 8 February till 11.59PM 9 February 2024. This toll exemption would apply to all tolled roads nationwide with exception to the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang border crossing toll plazas.

According to Nanta, "This decision reflects the unity government's dedication to supporting citizens and alleviating their financial burdens”. He further added that this exercise would cost the government approximately RM42.99 million.

The minister further advised travellers to plan their journey in accordance with Travel Time Advisory by respective highway operators. Motorists are also advised to ensure they have sufficient credit in their Touch ‘n Go card.

Although the government is announcing this toll free travel period, road users are still required to tap-in and out at all toll plazas as a measure of calculating the amount the government would need to reimburse the toll concessionaires.

Travellers can also stay informed about highway traffic conditions through the Malaysian Highway Authority's social media channels.
