Policeman Prohibited From Accepting Ang Pow Whilst On Duty
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain emphasised that it is a violation for a police officer to accept "Ang Pow" or cash gifts while on duty. He further added that receiving money during duty hours raises concerns about its origin and can be construed as corrupt behaviour.
He praised the efforts of the Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) officers for scrutinising a policeman at the Setapak station, which falls under the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters' jurisdiction.
"This indicates that my previous directive on Feb 1 has helped raise awareness among supervisors," he remarked during the launch of Op Selamat for the Chinese New Year at Persada PLUS.
Razarudin also addressed an incident on Feb 5 involving a traffic police sergeant allegedly found with several ‘Ang Pow’ packets containing significant amounts of money in a locker during a random search.
He reiterated that state police chiefs, commandants, and OCPDs are responsible for supervising their personnel. He stressed the importance of supervisors conducting thorough inspections to prevent any misconduct among their subordinates.
According to the standard operating procedure (SOP), supervisors must verify the cash holdings of their subordinates, ensuring it does not exceed RM100. Razarudin clarified scenarios where officers may possess additional cash, such as withdrawing money from the bank or receiving ‘Ang Pow’ while off duty.
He emphasised the need for transparency and accountability within the police force to maintain integrity and public trust.
