Selangor Government Will Expand Glow-In-The-Dark Road Markings To 15 Other Locations
According to The Star, the Selangor state government plans to extend the use of glow-in-the-dark road markings to 15 additional locations across all nine districts in the state.
Izham Hashim, the chairman of the state infrastructure and agriculture committee, claims that the project will encompass about 15 km of roads in areas like Sepang, Kuala Langat, and Petaling.
He stated that the glow-in-the-dark road markings, which will be painted on roads without any street lights, would cost approximately RM900,000 to implement. The project will be carried out in stages but he did not provide a timeline.

According to Izham, the project aligns with the "Selangor Bercahaya" program, which has so far resulted in the installation of 600 LED street lights across the state of Selangor. He also mentioned that RM150 million had been set aside for the installation of more LED street lights this year.
First Glow-in-the-dark road markings were installed in Hulu Langat, Semenyih, Selangor, by the Hulu Langat public works department in November of last year. As an alternative to using road studs the works ministry said at the time that the pilot project included painting 490 meters of glow-in-the-dark road markings on 245 meters of road.
However, in comparison to traditional road marking techniques, its costs are extremely high. The cost of photoluminescent paint was RM749 per square meter in January, while conventional road marking paint cost RM40 per square meter, according to works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
