BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Gains 22 kW OBC, RM420,100* Now

Heads up folks, the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport just received a small but significant upgrade.
BMW Group Malaysia announced earlier today that its BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport offering has received a slight upgrade. Said EV saloon now boasts an uprated on board charger (OBC) that now accepts up to 22 kW AC charging input.
This is a small yet significant upgrade compared to the initial launch version, which saw its AC charging input capped at 11 kW. With AC charging speed now doubled, full re-charge (0-100%) time using said method has been halved from 8 hours 15 minutes down to just 4 hours 15 minutes now.

The EV saloon's OBC has been upgraded and now accepts AC charging inputs up to 22 kW. In turn, this sees full re-charges (0-100%) taking just 4 hours 15 minutes using this charging method.
Apart from the improved AC charging speed, the OBC’s DC charging speed remains unchanged and capped at 205 kW. Through this, the i5 eDrive40 M Sport’s 83.9 kWh battery can be re-charged from 0-80% in just 34 minutes, claims BMW Group Malaysia.
Elsewhere, the i5 eDrive40 M Sport remains relatively unchanged from before apart from the deleted glass roof and switch to smaller 20-inch wheels (21-inch previously). It continues to see its rear-mounted e-motor drive its rear wheels (RWD) with a claimed 340 HP and 430 NM output figures, thus enabling 0-100 KM/H dashes in 6 seconds plus a maximum range of up to 582 KM (WLTP).

The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport first made landfall in Malaysia in Nov 2023.
As a refresher, the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport debuted locally back in Nov last year, making it the first iteration of the eighth-generation (G60) 5 Series to make landfall in Malaysia. You can get to know the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport in detail through our initial launch report by clicking these blue words.
“With the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport joining the ranks of the recently refreshed BMW iX xDrive50 Sport and the BMW iX M60 in terms of its upgraded charging technology, we mark this significant introduction as a testament to BMW Malaysia's steadfast dedication to driving Sheer Electrified Driving Pleasure for Malaysians,” expressed Benjamin Nagel, BMW Group Malaysia’s MD.

Despite the slight upgrade, there isn't a drastic change in price as the i5 eDrive40 M Sport now retails for RM420,100 with the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive package included.
As for price, there are no serious changes to note here apart from a slight hike. At launch, the EV saloon was tagged at RM419,800 with the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive package included. Said figure has risen slightly to RM420,100 instead with the service and repair package included.
The latter package, available as a cost-option priced at RM20,300, grants a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty coverage with free scheduled service, 8-year or 160,000 KM EV battery warranty, along with access to the BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline, plus BMW Service Online.
