ETS, Komuter Will Be Refurbished To Increase Frequency - Loke
According to Anthony Loke Siew Fook, older Electric Train Service (ETS) and Komuter trains will be refurbished to increase capacity and frequency.
The Transport Minister stated that there are approximately 18 old sets of ETS and Komuter trains, some of which require major overhauls before being put back into service. "More Komuter trains are needed in addition to ETS. Thus, the ministry is implementing a program to refurbish some of the older sets, and contracts will be awarded within the next few months," he said.
He also stated that the ETS, unlike locomotive trains, came in a set of six coaches and could not be expanded. To increase capacity and frequency, the ministry has decided to refurbish some of the older sets, allowing them to be reused.
"However, during the holiday season, we do our best to add more trips to ensure that people can return to their hometowns safely.
“Similarly, for the coming Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, more trips will be added,” he added.
