images_residents_passport01.jpg Road travelers from Malaysia to Thailand will soon have a hassle-free journey because the T.M. 6 form requirement is about to be waived. The goal of this modification is to expedite border procedures in order to save time and do away with lost form fines.

Previously, all vehicles traveling by land from Malaysia to Thailand, including motorcycles, had to stop at the land borders and fill out T.M. 6 forms, also referred to as Tor Mor 6 forms, which they had to keep on file until they left the country. Thai Immigration officials imposed heavy fines on those who misplaced these cards.

Recently, in Melbourne, Australia, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin discussed the issue of the T.M. 6 forms. Flight schedules, skyrocketing airfares, and Thailand's "6 Countries, 1 Destination" proposal were among the other subjects covered.

This will save time and increase efficiency for Malaysians who are traveling to Thailand by car or motorcycle as they won't have to stop and fill out these forms at land or road borders.

The Thai government decided to waive the requirement for Malaysians crossing the border road via the Sadao Checkpoint in Songkhla, acknowledging that the T.M. 6 at land borders caused inconvenience for travelers from that country.

Last year, this measure was put into effect for six months. The number of Malaysians entering Thailand on weekends through the Sadao Checkpoint tripled from 10,000 to 30,000, demonstrating the initiative's great success.
As a result, Thailand intends to do away with the T.M. 6 form requirement for visitors from Malaysia who are arriving in Thailand by automobile or motorcycle at all land checkpoints.
