The all-new Xiaomi SU7 now goes on sale in China, charting over 50,000 bookings in 27 minutes.

Following its much-anticipated global debut, the all-new Xiaomi SU7 EV finally goes on sale in its native China market. This first EV model by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has garnered rave reviews in the Great Wall nation, so much so that the SU7 has charted over 50,000 bookings within the first 27 minutes of its sales commencement.

Priced from only CNY 215,900 (RM141,229), the SU7 is sold at a loss in order to gain more market share.

Part and parcel of this boom in sales is the SU7’s competitive pricing, which managed to undercut some of its key rivals. Starting at CNY 215,900 (RM141,229), the SU7 is about CNY 30,000 (RM19,624) cheaper than its closest competitor, the Tesla Model 3. Admittedly, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun said this is part of the firm’s strategy to sell the SU7 at a loss in order to gain more market share.

For the Chinese market, the SU7 is available in three trim levels, starting with the baseline Standard RWD model. This entry-level model is powered by a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 295 HP (220 kW) and 400 NM. Said motor is juiced by a 73.6-kWh battery pack with a 400-volt architecture, which supplies the sleek EV saloon with a maximum driving range of 700 KM, according to the more lenient CLTC standards.

Next in line is the SU7 Pro variant, which gets the same RWD motor setup as the base model, albeit harnessing a larger 94.3-kWh battery pack. Thanks to the latter, the SU7 Pro boasts a healthy maximum EV range of 830 KM (CLTC) – the highest in its entire lineup.

The range-topping Xiaomi SU7 Max boasts a rapid 0-100 KM/H acceleration time of only 2.78 seconds.

Sitting on top of the range is the SU7 Max, which is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup capable of delivering up to 663 HP (495 kW) and 838 NM, which is good enough for a rapid century sprint time of 2.78 seconds and a V-Max of 265 KM/H. Harnessing a 101-kWh battery pack with an 800-volt architecture, the SU7 Max boasts a decent maximum EV range of 800 KM (CLTC).

Featuring a sleek EV saloon body style, the SU7 is penned by renowned automotive designer Chris Bangle.

Penned by the legendary automotive designer Chris Bangle, the Xiaomi SU7 comes with a pretty sleek EV saloon body style, featuring styling cues inspired by a certain British supercar maker, plus some typical EV design traits. Measuring 4,997 MM long, 1,963 MM wide, 1,455 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 3,000 MM, the SU7 is about the same size as both the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, while being bigger than its apparent rivals like the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3.

On board, the Xiaomi SU7 comes with a pretty modern cabin design, primed with a sizable central infotainment system powered by its proprietary HyperOS with Internet of Things (IOT) capabilities. Part and parcel of Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” strategy, the SU7’s infotainment unit can be connected to other Xiaomi devices and appliances, as well as devices from other brands like Apple.

Alongside the car itself, Xiaomi also launched several accessories tailored specifically to the SU7’s cabin. This includes custom sun shades for the front windscreen, in-car refrigerators, smartphone holders, and many more—all of which can be included in the vehicle’s purchase price.

Deliveries for the Xiaomi SU7 EV are set to commence later in April this year, with all of them assembled at Xiaomi’s dedicated production facility that houses fully-automated assembly lines for a faster production time of one car in just 76 seconds.

As of now, Xiaomi has yet to unveil any plans to export the SU7 EV to international markets, where it will remain a Chinese domestic market exclusive. Should the tech giant decide to export them, we’d reckon the Xiaomi SU7 would make a very compelling buy over the usual suspects.
