Chery Auto Malaysia Acknowledges New Omoda 5 Viral Case

yet another case of a Chery Omoda 5 with a major component failure has gone viral on social media last weekend.
Over the weekend, yet another case of a Chery Omoda 5 crossover SUV suffering a major component failure has gone viral. This time around, said new viral case saw a customer experience a catastrophic chassis component failure that rendered her car inoperable.
As detailed in the Facebook post embedded below by user Stephanie, her Omoda 5 was abruptly halted in its tracks mid-journey when the car’s rear axle snapped. The break saw said car’s rear left wheel tuck itself into the well, thus damaging the latter assembly and halting the crossover.
From said post, Stephanie also noted how her Omoda 5 was still relatively new with less than 7,000 KM on the odometer, and that she drove the crossover under normal driving conditions before the component failure – and she included dashcam footage to corroborate these claims.
Stephanie even detailed how the rear axle appeared to have far fewer structural welding applied at the failure point. Obviously, had this happened at higher speeds -i.e. highway cruising – the outcome could’ve been far worse with possible injury and or greater harm.
Though the car was recovered swiftly by Chery Auto Malaysia’s after-sales team following the customer’s complaint, her Facebook post detailing the ordeal has already garnered widespread attention from netizens – many now having doubts over the upstart Chinese brand.
Like the previous Omoda 5 viral brake failure case, Chery Auto Malaysia has once again acknowledged the incident. Through a statement issued earlier today, the automaker has confirmed that it has contacted the affected customer mentioned, even taking pro-active steps by offering a courtesy car in the process too.
At the same time, Chery Auto Malaysia again has committed towards performing a thorough inspection and investigation into the matter.

Chery Auto Malaysia's official statement (left). In it, the automaker says concerned customers can have their vehicles inspected at any authorised service centre.
To prevent similar incidents from repeating, Chery Auto Malaysia says concerned customers are welcomed to have their vehicles inspected at any authorisred Chery service centre today. Customers need only to contact any of these outlets and set their inspection appointments beforehand, and will receive a detailed inspection report after.
For further enquiries, customers can also reach the Chery Malaysia Customer Careline by calling it at +603-2771 7070. We will have further updates on this case as soon details are made available.
