According to Bernama, Kelantan has been granted RM83.5 million by the federal government to maintain the state's road infrastructure.
The allocation will be used to fix the state's identified damaged roads, with completion of the repairs anticipated in June, according to Datuk Izani Husin, chairman of the Kelantan public works, infrastructure, water, and rural development committee.
“The allocation this time is slightly less than last year’s [allocation of] RM104.4 million. Regardless, we will use it to repair damaged roads in all the colonies (districts) as needed after Hari Raya Aidilfitri. So far, the allocation for periodic paving in the Gua Musang colony is the highest, involving 11 roads at an estimated cost of RM10.7 million,” Izani said.
The district engineer's office will use RM6.5 million of the state's total road maintenance budget, Izani added, with the concession company Roadcare handling RM76.9 million of the work.
Roadcare has been allocated RM44 million for periodic pavement maintenance, RM25.57 million for routine maintenance, RM5.42 million for periodic maintenance on non-pavement, RM141 million for minor bridge repairs, and RM544,000 for emergency work. The chairman of the committee stated that these allocations will be completed by Roadcare. A total of RM3.65 million will be spent on modifying accident-prone areas in three colonies, including six locations in Pasir Mas and two roads in Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai, while RM750,000 will be spent on pedestrian crossings with traffic lights in Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh.
