GIIAS 2024: Hyundai Inoiq 5 N Set For CKD In Indonesia

Apart from debuting the new second generation Kona Electric crossover at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 happening this week, PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) is also reportedly set to start marketing a locally assembled (CKD) version of the Ioniq 5 N EV hot hatch too.
The latter N-badged performance model’s localisation, alongside the former crossover, in said neighbouring Republic was confirmed by HMID’s COO Fransiscus Soerjopranoto at the GIIAS expo, reports Indonesian news portal Kompas.

Sources out of the neighbouring republic report that both the new second-gen Hyundai Kona Electric (left) and the Ioniq 5 N will be assembled at the HMMI plant in Cikarang, West Java.
The EV hot hatch and its compact crossover SUV cousin mentioned are set to roll off the line from the PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) plant in Cikarang, West Java. “We are discussing with HMMI, but the earlier it can be delivered to consumers is Oct 2024,” adds Fransiscus.
The exec further emphasised that neither price or sales volume were the main aspects pursued through this product and its CKD efforts. Instead, he stressed that Hyundai N sub-brand remains focused solely on driving experience, thus echoing what said Korean performance arm iterated prior.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N we sighted on show during Auto China 2024 in Beijing earlier this year.
As a refresher, the Ioniq 5 N shares the same base as the ‘tamer’ Hyundai Ioniq 5, but boasts higher outputs of up to 641 HP and 770 NM of peak torque (with N Grin Boost) from its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. Altogether, this EV hot hatch can despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 3.4 seconds.
Its driveline is juiced by a sizeable 84 kWh battery pack which, according to further reports out of the Republic, is set to be localised as well through the PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power joint-venture plant located in Karawang established by Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solutions.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N debuted in July last with much fanfare, much of it stemming from its rapid performance enabled by its 641 HP and 770 NM peak outputs.
Said EV battery plant is the first of its kind in the ASEAN region and is billed with a 10 gWh annual capacity. Crucially, it stands as another strong signal of Indonesia’s intent at becoming a regional EV powerhouse region.
No word yet if either the Indonesia-made Ioniq 5 N or Kona Electric models will be exported to other markets regionally, but we won’t discount the possibility of which just yet.
