Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd (BHPetrol) and The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop petrol stations in rural areas, creating job opportunities and boost local economies.
The MoU, involving BHPetrol and eight KKDW agencies, including the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) and the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar), was signed by BHPetrol CEO Azizul Azily Ahmad and the general managers of the respective agencies.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Under this agreement, BHPetrol will invest RM45 million to build 10 petrol stations in Kampung Awah, Temerloh, Pahang; Sri Gading, Batu Pahat and Bandar Penawar in Johor; Taman Kesedar Putra 2 and Tumbi Rapat in Jeli, Kelantan and Kubang Menerong, Penang.
Two more BHPetrol station locations for this initiative are still being determined.
In his speech, Zahid, emphasised that the project will help narrow the development gap between rural and urban areas ultimately promoting balanced and inclusive economic growth.
Additionally, MARA Incorporated Sdn Bhd (MARA Inc.), a subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), announced a RM1.5 million initiative to install Solar PV panels at 50 BHPetrol stations.
BHPetrol also submitted a letter of intent to MARA, committing to offer shelf space for SME products from MARA-supported entrepreneurs in 300 BHPetromart convenience stores across Malaysia.
