Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, the Government's Chief Secretary recently shared his experience conducting a surprise visit to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) branch in Putrajaya to thoroughly inspect the department's operations and public services. This visit comes after certain branches' operation hours were extended by one hour, starting on August 19, 2024.

This expansion is in line with the ongoing Public Service reform initiatives meant to promote productivity, particularly in light of the Prime Minister's recent offer of a pay increase for public employees covered under the SSPA.

Shamsul personally thanked the JPJ officers and employees during his visit for their commitment to provide the public with high-quality services. Based on his observations, he did concede that there is space for improvement and had outlined two crucial issues needs to be addressed immediately:

  1. Long Waiting Times: The current work processes result in longer waiting times for customers. Shamsul Azri has instructed the Secretary General to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Director General of JPJ to identify suitable methods to shorten these waiting times.

  2. Waiting Area Conditions: The waiting area requires improvements to create a more conducive and customer-friendly environment. Issues such as broken chairs and the absence of fans were noted. He has directed Putrajaya Holdings to take immediate action on these matters within the week.

Shamsul Azri expressed hope that JPJ and all other government departments will continue to improve and focus on providing the people with the best possible service delivery. He underlined that the SSPA ushers in a new era for the public service and urged all employees to work even harder for the good of the people and the country.
