2025 Nissan Fairlady Z Gains Midnight Purple Hue in Japan

The 2025 model year update sees the Japan-spec Nissan Fairlady gaining the infamous Midnight Purple exterior colour.
It has been a few years since Nissan released the new seventh-gen Nissan Z (affectionately known as the Fairlady Z in Japan), and this beloved sportscar is about to enter its fourth year of production this coming 2025. For the 2025 model year (2025 MY) update in Japan, the Z car gains a new array of exterior colourways, including a special Midnight Purple hue, which was made famous by the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R R34.

The new Midnight Purple colorway joins a slew of new and exciting colours such as Wangan Blue (which looks pretty identical to R34’s Bayside Blue), Vibrant Red, and Brilliant White Pearl, to name just a few. Those who are leaning more towards nostalgia can still opt for the 2025 MY Fairlady Z with the 432 Orange hue, which was inspired by the orange paint offered to the original first-gen Nissan Z.

Apart from the new colourway, the 2025 MY also sees the Z being offered in a special variant cordially named the Fairlady Z Customized Edition, where it gets a sportier stance thanks to a new split front grille, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, exclusive badges, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

On board, the 2025 MY model boasts no significant change from the previous version, with the only notable addition being the new SOS call function. With the touch of a dedicated button, the driver can talk to an operator in the event of an emergency, while the system will automatically call for emergency services and share the vehicle’s location once the car airbags are deployed.

Predictably, this minor refresh also sees no updates happening beneath the Z’s front hood, as it continues to carry the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 VR30DDTT engine that still outputs 400 HP as before. Transmission options also remain the same, with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic still facilitating the power delivery to its rear wheels (RWD).

Order books for the 2025 Nissan Fairlady Z have been opened in Japan, with the first batch scheduled to be delivered from February 2025 onwards. As for pricing, the 2025 Nissan Fairlady Z now starts at JPY 5.497 million (RM157,818) for the standard model, while the Nismo version almost doubles at JPY 9.302 million (RM267,060) a pop.

Although Nissan did not officially mention any production limits for the 2025 MY Fairlady Z, local Japanese automotive portal Creative Trend reported that production for the new Z will be limited to only 4,100 units. From said figure, 3,100 examples will be the Fairlady Z, 500 units will be the Nismo, and the remaining 500 will be demo cars for test drives. Due to the reported limited production numbers, dealers are forced to run a lottery system for buyers seeking the new Nissan Z, thus making this supposedly attainable sports car a potential unicorn in the future.
