Earlier this week, Stellantis revealed its latest STLA Frame platform.

Stellantis unwrapped its very latest STLA Frame platform earlier this week. The firm’s third new multi-energy platform, though primarily built for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), will also see traditional combustion (ICE), hybrid (HEV), hydrogen, as well as range-extended EV (REEV) tech supported too.

Stellantis claims that the new EV-first platform has the ability to yield class-leading range figures as high as 1,100 KM with an REEV setup, and as high as 800 KM with a pure BEV setup. Vehicles using said tech will also accommodate liquid-cooled battery packs with energy densities ranging between 159 to over 200 kWh, adds the firm.

Notable here is the high versatility boasted by the new STLA Frame platform as it can accommodate various types of powerplants and suspension assemblies.

Additionally, STLA Frame with BEV setups will harness an 800-volt architecture to grant up to 350 kW DC charging speeds, which entails to roughly 100 miles (160 KM) of range with each 10-minute charge. With an REEV setup, the platform harnesses a 400-volt architecture instead to see peak DC charging speeds of up to 175 kW, which sees 80 KM of range gained with each 10-minute charge.

Critically, the STLA Frame is also endowed with bi-directional charging abilities, thus allowing the vehicle’s battery to either charge another EV, power a home, or supply power back to the grid.

Elsewhere, Stellantis notes that the it has developed electric drive modules for STLA Frame that are rated with outputs as high as 335 HP. Up to two can be primed in this frame to enable all-wheel-drive (AWD) and, depending on configuration, vehicle models underpinning this platform could despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints as quickly as 4.4 secs.

Apart from BEV, the Stellantis STLA Frame can also accommodate traditional ICE powertrain setups as pictured.

The high versatility also applies to the various suspension designs the platform can accommodate, and includes air suspension systems. This, according to Stellantis, enables the platform to tackle a myriad of driving conditions and loading scenarios, the latter being the biggest hint of this platform’s viability for full-size pick-up trucks, light commercial vehicles, or large SUVs.

Adding to the latter too are the platform’s claimed maximum towing capacity of up to 6,350 KG plus a claimed maximum payload rating of up to 1,224 KG. On top of all this comes the ability to support water-fording abilities up to a depth of 610 MM.

Besides BEV and ICE setups, STLA Frame was also buit to support hydrogen, hybrid (HEV) as well as Range-Extended EV (REEV) setups too.

“With full EV and extended-range EV tech coming soon, we’re bringing ‘no compromise’ solutions to buyers who may be hesitant on trying their first electric vehicle,” says Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares about the new STLA Frame platform.

The exec also emphasised how the new frame combines unprecedented range with new capabilities and performance levels t offer class-leading range, payload and towing figures to enable the creation of reliable and powerful trucks and SUVs.
