LRT Ampang, Sri Petaling Line Will Get Women’s Coach From Dec 31

RapidKL has announced the implementation of women-only coaches on the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling line, which will begin on December 31, 2024. Previously, the MRT Kajang Line featured women-only coaches in September 2023, which were later expanded to the MRT Putrajaya Line in April 2024.
According to the train operator, the effort aims to provide a more comfortable travel experience for women, who comprise 60% of all passengers on Rapid KL trains. The company hopes that women would feel more comfortable and worry less about their safety with the women's coach.
It also states that since the women's coach project began on the MRT Kajang Line, the number of harassment cases has decreased by 22% as of November 2024 while the MRT Putrajaya Line reported 50% fewer such occurrences since April of this year.

For the record, KTM Komuter had already established a precedent for gender-specific accommodations in Malaysia's rail services by introducing women-only coaches as early as April 2010 before these MRT and LRT installations.
