2.6M Vehicles Anticipated On Highways Daily During CNY
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects 2.6 million vehicles on the roads daily during the Chinese New Year holiday. Traffic leaving the Klang Valley will be especially heavy between January 24-28, as people travel for the holiday, and again between February 1-2, when they return to the city.
Out of the anticipated 2.6 million vehicles traveling on highways, LLM predicts that 2.2 million will be on the PLUS North South Highway, 198,000 on the KL-Karak Highway, 82,000 on the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur Phase 1, 48,000 on the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur Phase 2, and 120,000 on the West Coast Motorway (WCE).
To ensure smooth traffic flow during the Chinese New Year celebrations, 25 Smartlane stretches will be activated along the PLUS highway to manage traffic at toll plazas and interchanges.
Additionally, lane closures and road work by concessionaires will be prohibited unless absolutely necessary, starting tomorrow until February 3rd. Furthermore, all vehicles carrying goods will be restricted from using the highway on January 27-28 and February 1-2.
PLUS is also adding 50 portable toilets during busy travel times to make sure everyone's comfortable. On top of that, LLM is making sure 38 R&R spots and toll plazas are in tip-top shape - they started this in 2024 and are keeping it up this year too.
Highway travellers are advised to use the MyPLUS-TTA app for North-South Highway travel and the Travel Time Advisory (TTA) provided by AFA Prime for the KL-Karak Highway and East Coast Highway Phase 1 while making travel plans.
Highway users can contact LLM’s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) at 1-800-88-7752 for assistance or visit the LLM website at https://www.llm.gov.my and the LLM Info Traffic WhatsApp Channel for traffic condition updates.
