MoT Set to Join MACC in Probing Puspakom Over Integrity Concerns
The Malaysian Transport Ministry will work closely with MACC to tackle integrity concerns by Puspakom.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is slated to work closely with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to tackle integrity concerns within the vehicle inspection services at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom). This statement follows the recent investigation into allegations that Puspakom staff had approved a vehicle that was later deemed unsafe by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke
MoT Minister YB Anthony Loke, in its official statement today, said that the ministry will work to determine whether syndicates are involved in offering illegal services.
"We want to identify not only this isolated case but, more importantly, whether there is a syndicate behind these unauthorised services.
"We are aware that there are 'runners' and cartels in the market approving vehicles that fail the inspection. This case will certainly be investigated further," Loke said to NST during the launch of the new Putrajaya JPJ office earlier today.
Aside from that, the transport minister has also confirmed that three Puspakom officers have been hauled up for investigation, adding that the ministry via JPJ is in the process of completing the inquiry.
Prior to this statement, Puspakom CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman has issued a strong warning to Puspakom staff that any misconduct will not be tolerated.
