No Electric Bus Under BAS.MY For Now To Maintain Cost - Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has announced that the government's BAS.MY program will not incorporate electric buses into its fleet at this time. The primary reason cited for this decision is the significantly higher upfront cost of electric buses compared to their diesel counterparts.

However, Loke did not completely rule out the possibility of electric buses being introduced into the BAS.MY program in the future. He suggested that the transition to electric buses could be a gradual process.

“If we were to use electric buses, the purchase costs would be significantly higher. For now, we are still using Euro 5 diesel buses, which are environmentally friendly,” he told a press conference after launching the BAS.MY service at the Town Hall building here.

Ipoh's BAS.MY stage bus service, which includes 14 midi buses and 37 mini low-floor buses serving 16 routes, launched today as part of the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Programme.

The transport minister announced that new bus lines have been added to Kuala Kangsar and Kampar to improve the program's service levels. The buses will operate from the Medan Kidd Bus Station and the Meru Raya Bus Terminal in Jelapang, serving routes that connect Medan Kidd to Bercham, Tanjung Rambutan, Chemor, Pasir Puteh, Pengkalan Sentosa, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Taman Botani, Batu Gajah, Seri Iskandar, Kuala Kangsar, and Kampar.
